Gettin' Lucky in Tennessee
Written by: rwlovett on August 29, 2009
A long time ago, in the spring of 99' in Covinton, Tennessee, I got a
puppy. This is the story of how I got him...
When I was six years old my dad, mom, grandma, and I went for a long
ten hour drive south, to Covington, Tennessee to visit family. It was
my spring break and I was exited to go. The car ride was long and
boring but when we got there I was happy to see my cousins, aunts, and
uncles. We stayed with my Great-Aunt Virginia then, sadly she has
passed on. One day while I was out playing, like little kids do. I
saw a litter of puppies playing amongst themselves. There were four
brown puppies, and one black and white. The black and white one was
the only boy and the best looking dog that I have ever seen in years
even to this day.
The puppy followed me around all day, and only that
puppy none of the girls would follow me around only Lucky. That is
what I named him, because the rest of the litter was put down for
unknown reasons. After it was time to go back inside for the night
I asked my parents if I could keep him. Obviously they said yes. I
was the happiest boy in the world!!! Lucky slept in a box next to me
the entire night, and he even wined when he had to go out. The next
day Lucky learned to swim. My cousin took him and threw him into the
pond and I was terrified until I saw him come swimming back to me.
We bought him a collar and a bright red kennel. We took him home on
the long drive and he wined when ever he had to use the bathroom. I
love my dog Lucky and when he leaves me to go to heaven, it will be
intolerable for a long time, I may not recover fully for years to come.
